In this week's readings I enjoyed reading the section about learning and understanding concrete words. The techniques used for learning the children's names in the classrooms seemed really fun. I especially thought that the king or queen for the day was a wonderful idea. I did however feel that you would need to help the children understand that each day the king or queen for the day is going to change every day. They need to know that each child will have a turn and that their turn will be over and someone new will be chosen. It goes through a scenario of 6 days and talks about making sure their is equal treatment and the same activities are done with each child. I think that this should be the most important part of the entire activity.
This could be an example of a certificate you use as a reward for the student:
I thought King/ Queen for a day was a really good idea too, but I was worried that if the Teacher wasn't able to make every student king/queen for the day it would be harmful to the class dynamic and the student's own self esteem. I thought it was really great that the book covered equal treatment, I feel like too often good ideas are had but not thought out enough to be implemented.
